A Poor Woman Was Forced to Marry a Sleeping Billionaire — Then the Man Everyone Thought Was Unconscious Revealed He Had Heard Every Word.

PART 5

Delphine woke clearly the next morning. Her first coherent question was about a painting.

“The yellow house,” she whispered. “Did they take it?”

“Your painting. You were thirteen. Three windows and the crooked tree.”

Before cancer, Delphine had worked as a bookkeeper for Northgate Medical Logistics, a small company purchased by Kade Meridian. She had discovered invoices for medical devices that had never been manufactured.

“I was going to take them to Weston Kade,” Delphine said. “He was auditing Northgate. The night before our meeting, his car crashed.”

“Who knew about the meeting?” Weston asked.

“Your general counsel. Silas Bram.” Delphine closed her eyes. “He came to my house after the crash. He demanded every copy. I lied and said there were none.”

Within months, Delphine’s cancer returned. Her insurance appeals were denied. Wren’s father petitioned for emergency guardianship, supported by an evaluation from Dr. Everett Reyes — the same physician who had overseen Weston’s coma care.

“Silas didn’t create this,” Wren said. “He is part of it, but somebody above him did.”

Silas Bram had been Weston’s father’s closest friend. He had also proposed the proxy marriage.

“Then Marcus paid Odalys to send me instead,” Wren said.

“Silas wanted the daughter who might know where Delphine hid the evidence.”

If Weston was declared permanently incapacitated, Marcus would become chief executive. Silas would remain the man who actually controlled the money.

“The yellow house is still in Odalys’s basement,” Wren said.

“Then no one goes near it until police can secure it,” Weston replied.

“By the time we convince them, Odalys may destroy it.”

“Wren.”

“That evidence belongs to my mother. I know the house.”

“And the people involved tried to kill me.”

“Which is why they will watch you and Owen, not the poor girl they think can be frightened.”

He let out a slow breath. “What is your plan?”
