She Arrived at the Billionaire’s Door With Nothing But a Baby and a Secret — Then an Unopened Letter Changed Everything He Believed About Her.

PART 7

Genevieve Kade’s letter explained more. Delphine had been a bookkeeper for one of Owen’s early charities. Before her death, she warned Genevieve that he diverted donations and collected private information on women seeking aid. Genevieve copied financial records but became ill before she could expose the entire scheme.

At the bottom, Genevieve had written one final paragraph. Weston read it aloud.

“A company is not your family, no matter how many nights you sacrifice to it. A family is made of people whose safety matters more to you than your pride. If revealing this costs you the business, let it cost you. Anything worth keeping can survive the truth.”

The card also contained a letter from Delphine to the daughter she believed she would never know.

When Priya finished reading it, Wren moved around the table and held her.

The evidence broke the case open. Federal prosecutors connected Owen and Everett to bribery, illegal data access, and coercion. Castellan Meridian was cleared of institutional wrongdoing, though Weston publicly accepted responsibility for failures in oversight. He returned his annual bonus, established an independent fund for affected families, and placed the company’s charitable division under outside governance.

The board objected to the cost.

Weston gave them a choice: approve the reforms or accept his resignation. They approved them eleven to one.

Wren’s professional suspension was formally erased. Instead of returning to her old position, she proposed a new independent center to help parents challenge fraudulent custody claims. She named it the Lantern Project.

Weston offered funding. Wren refused, then returned twenty minutes later with a twelve-page governance proposal capping donor representation and scheduling independent audits.

“You’re trying to frighten me with a good time?” he asked, and smiled.

“I just haven’t seen you look happy in a long time.”

Then Nadia threw a piece of banana at his sleeve.
