The Mafia Boss Hunted Down The Woman Who Left Him — Then Three Little Faces Revealed The Family Secret He Never Knew

PART 7

At eight-fifteen the next morning, Weston brought coffee, bagels, and the letters. Wren read them and went pale.

“I thought you knew Owen could not breathe. I believed you knew and still chose not to come.”

“I would have come.”

“How am I supposed to separate which cruelty was yours and which belonged to your grandfather?”

“You shouldn’t have to. I created the situation that gave him power over us.”

The caseworker, Patricia Reeves, arrived at nine. She inspected the apartment, reviewed schedules, interviewed the children. Nadia showed a drawing with four figures beneath a yellow sun: Mama, Owen, Nadia, Priya. No father.

“I see children who are clean, bonded, receiving medical care,” Patricia said. “I will close the emergency review. However — someone appears unusually informed about this family. Document everything.”

“They will not continue,” Weston said.

After she left, Wren leaned against the wall. “I thought they were going to take them.”

“They weren’t.”

“You could not know that.”

“No. But I can promise something else. Whatever comes, you will not face it alone.”
